  • The Condado Series: Crustacean
Shot on location in Condado, Puerto Rico. I grabbed this shot after parting ways with my friend Eric in Condado. We’d been out for a walk (which, for me, means photowalk!) and Eric had to split for a couple of errands, so I walked down to Ocean Park and strolled along the ocean side rocks. [...]
  • Joy (and dancing)
I came across this video the other day and it resonated with me, so I thought I’d include it in this journal. I do hope that you enjoy it. For more information about Matt Harding, click here. If you enjoy the video, you can find an HD version here. More posts from me are forthcoming [...]
  • La Princesa – An Assortment of Photos
This post contains an assortment of photos taken primarily in Old San Juan this week. There is no particular focus or topic – just a splash of pics that depict various things around the Old City. This one is a favorite of mine; I love the colors and textures of various buildings throughout the islands. [...]
  • El Yunque
After many false starts, delays, and unforeseen circumstances, I finally made the ascension to one of Puerto Rico’s truly amazing treasures: the Caribbean National Rain Forest, known as ‘El Yunque’. Joining me for the voyage were Mary, her son Luichi, and my daughter Brenna. As we slowly wound our way up through the Luquillo mountains, [... […]
  • Really Bad News
We recently received some really bad news in San Juan regarding American Airlines and American Eagle: AMR Corporation announced a huge reduction in flying in San Juan which will result in the loss of hundreds of jobs. When I started this journal, I intended to catalog my first year in the islands. That ambition may [...]

About Windward Journey:

This photoblog was started in January 2008 with the goal of documenting various people, places and things in the Caribbean. "OK, so who are you?" you ask... My name is John Grace, and I have been an airline crew member for 18 years. Late in the fall of 2007 I decided to transfer my flying career to San Juan, Puerto Rico - a place where I didn't speak the language, had few friends, and knew nothing about the culture. My flying responsibilities regularly take me to virtually every island in the Caribbean, allowing me to experience, and share with you, vastly different customs and cultures on a daily basis. I also post entries about my life at home in Virginia, mainly for the benefit of my Caribbean friends who are curious about life in the Washington DC area. I've incorporated my lifelong love of photography into this journal, which I hope that you'll enjoy and pass along to others. From time to time, folks ask whether the photos posted here can be purchased. Yes, I do sell my photos in both print and digital formats. Prices are reasonable and I endeavor to provide professionally finished images. I am also available to photograph you, your friends, and your family in virtually any setting, anywhere in the world. Just let me know! I hope that you enjoy this blog, and I encourage you to leave comments whenever possible. JG
